I've often wanted a menu item in Explorer's context menu that opens the containing folder of the file you right-clicked on; similar to the "Open containing folder" feature in Firefox's download window. I spent an hour or so trying to add this to Windows Explorer, and finally arrived at this very simple solution.
Just download and run this file, and let it add the information to your registry. Now right-click on any file and choose "Explore here" to open up a new Explorer window with that file selected.
The most useful part of this is that it dereferences shortcuts. Want to go to the folder where a game is installed? Do this on its shortcut! Most often, though, I'll probably be using it on files listed in Start->Documents to go to the folder for any recent project of mine.
Enjoy! If you liked this extension, also check out the Windows XP Powertoy "Open Command Window Here". Handy for programmers and power users, and completely useless for everyone else. ;-)
Thanks, Crispy! That's very helpful.

Back on topic, OCWH makes me want to hurry along my system upgrade and install the copy of XP I have sitting on my dresser. But then, I have a little ball of purring fluff who I spent my PC upgrade money on instead...
