YAGSACG goes commercial. Calling all beta testers!

Well, nobody guessed close enough, so I suppose I'll just have to show you.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Yep, YAGSACG got an overhaul; it isn't even a BYOND game anymore. In fact, it's my first indie game. And yes, I plan to sell it.

Q: Awesome! How do I play it?

A: I'm glad you asked! I'm currently looking for beta testers; Windows only, for the moment (ports to other operating systems will come later). If you want to sign up, post a comment here with the following information:
  • Email address - I'll need this to send you a link to your beta copy. If you want to keep it private, send me an email via "crispiness at fastmail dot fm"; but please provide the other information here as well.
  • Operating system (Windows XP, Windows 98, Linux with Wine, etc.)
  • CPU type and speed
  • Amount of memory (RAM)
  • Video card
  • Why you want to be chosen
I'm looking for people with slower computers as well as faster ones, so please be honest!

Q: I want to play it when it's released, but I don't want to beta test.

That's fine too! You can sign up to the newsletter at the new Yet Another Generic Space-Age Conquest Game website. (Yep, that's my site.)

Q: What??? It's not going to be free anymore??? You FIEND!

A: Yeah. Sorry about that.

Q: What's going to happen to the old BYOND version?

A: Once I've made the new version available, I'll close down the old one. Downloads will be disabled and live games will not show up on its hub entry. You'll still be able to play it if you have a copy, but only in private. The new version is so much cooler, though, so you really should buy it. ;-)

Q: Why?

A: I've always dreamed about being able to make a living from making games. This is the first step.

Subscribe to the newsletter to stay informed; or post here (with the information listed above) if you want to beta test!

That is truly great, and it looks awesome. I'd love to beta test. :)

- [email protected] (please include "BYOND" in the e-mail body or subject somewhere just to get it past the filters)
- WinXP Home
- Intel Celeron D processor, 2.4 GHz
- 512 MB memory
- ATI X1300 Graphics
- I'd like to be chosen (besides the total awesomeness, hotness, and wanting to totally support you, your game, and your career goal?) so that I can get my greedy, grubby little hands on a beta copy of your game! Hah!

Edit: I just added another filter for things containing "inventive dingo" for the newsletter, so feel free to no longer feel obligated to include "BYOND." =D
*[email protected]
* Windows XP
* AMD 64 3800+, 2.4 ghz
* 1 GB memory
* GeForce 6150 LE - 256 MB
* I'd enjoy helping out an ex-chatter ;)
I'd like to be beta tester, I'll give you my details when I've finished chatting up my gal.
:O

- [email protected]
- Windows XP
- AMD Sempron(tm) 2600+, 1.82 GHz
- 256 MB memory
- No idea what my graphics card is, but it can apparently play Battlefield 2 >:(
System 1:
- Windows XP
- AMD Athlon 64 3500 ++ (dunno how many GHz that would be)
- 1.5 Gigabytes of RAM
- Graphics card is integrated for now. I'm going to get a good one soon, but if you want to test how dependant the game is on a graphics card (since the rest of my system is fairly good), then I guess I can be useful for a bit.

System 2:
- Windows 98
- Some very bad processor
- 64 megs of RAM (indicative of the processor and graphics card, then)
- Graphics card is probably not good.

- monkeyinhamsterballwithcurlyears[at]hotmail[dot]com
Why I should be chosen:
- We're *friends* (love) Plus, I have the worst computer here out of the lot of you, so I'd be good for testing that. :P

Crispy! If you want me to make some more planets or general graphics for you, I will. For free. Please? :( That said I won't work to a contract, I'd just send you stuff when I felt like it. But please? :(

I actually have 5 systems to test it on, they are as follows:
System 1
-Windows XP Pro
-AMD Athlon 3200+
-1024MB
-ATI Radeon X800XT

System 2
-Windows XP Pro/Kubuntu Linux with Wine
-Intel Centrino 1.8GHz
-512MB
-i915 Intel integrated laptop chip

System 3
-Windows ME(Eek! I know!)
-Intel P4 1.n(Not sure the exacts)
-256MB
-Some crappy onboard chip

System 4
-Windows XP Home
-Intel P4 1.8GHz
-384MB
-ATI Radeon 9000PRO

System 5
-Windows XP Pro
-Intel P4 3.0GHz Mobile
-512MB
-ATI Radeon 9000Mobile

I also have a few <300MHz to stress test if you want to see, but assuming you are using OpenGL, they probably aren't capable.
Thanks for the positive responses everyone. I feel warm and fuzzy inside. =)

I still need a wider variety of systems for people to test performance on, so keep 'em coming!

Donations of graphics/sound/music/etc. for any of my games are always welcome. =) I can't promise I'll use them though. I am reasonably happy with what I've got now.
This is really great Crispy!

If you don't mind me asking, what did you write it in?
I think it was C++, though I'd be interested to know what all APIs he used. :)
Close, but not quite! I used the D programming language rather than C++. The language is definitely superior, but the support is currently lacking - I paid the early adopter price and I'm still not sure if it was worth it. Never mind.

It runs under OpenGL, using SDL (site seems to be down at the moment), which was linked dynamically using the Derelict bindings (don't ask me why they're called Derelict, I have no idea). It uses a bunch of SDL helper libraries in similar fashion: SDL_image, SDL_ttf, SDL_mixer, and SDL_net (yes, it's multiplayer).

Keep the beta applications coming, guys. ;-)
Elation, AMD Athlon 64 3500 2.2ghz.

*cough*google*cough*
The GHz rating is pretty irrelevant for Athlons IMO.

Incidently, that's the same CPU as mine. =)
Curious as to why it is irrelevant, Crisp?

Mainly because they don't compare properly to Intel's clock speeds. You can't look at a 3.5 GHz Intel CPU and a 2.2 GHz AMD CPU and say "oh, the AMD is slower". The point rating may be partly a marketing gimmick, but it's still more useful to know.

Still need more people for beta testing. ;-)
:-p Alright.

Not many will buy, just because its not free. we can get our rts needs from another dealer. Besides you dont have giant explosions. IM NOT GONNA PAY IF YOU ARENT GONNA AT LEAST GIVE US GIANT EXPLOSIONS.

Get gianter explosions than Total Annihilation Spring and we'll talk.(those explosions are freaking giant though)

Rky, there's a good chance I'll buy just because it's a BYONDer's game I've known of since my joining of '01

_ryno
Well I've been on BYOND since '04 so HAAA
'04? Liar.
